ABOUT
Vision
Our vision is a world where animals are no longer central to the human industrial food system, so that system serves to mitigate climate change rather than exacerbate it by efficiently and equitably providing sustainable, nutritious, and humanely produced food to meet planetary needs for human nutrition.
Mission
Our mission is to create, fund, or otherwise support projects and people that can have a substantial and, where possible, measurable impact on speeding the transition of the industrialized human food system to one that mitigates climate change and other risks by removing animals from the system.
Strategic Approach
Track One: We look at the animal-based industrial human food system and its negative effects as a powerful and entrenched economic system that we are trying to alter for the better. This means understanding the system and its components, including a basic understanding of how the cost structures in the system work, who are the stakeholders, where are the points of leverage for potential change, what (if anything) is being done to affect each point today, and what areas are being under-addressed.
Key to this view is understanding the importance of the determinants of the price of animal products (and the price and availability of what people see as alternatives).
Track Two: This track is designed to do foundational work most likely to yield great results in ways we cannot easily measure. This includes getting more talented people aware of and working towards our vision, conducting open-source research needed to better guide our efforts, promote ways that information can more quickly and widely be shared with the people who can make best use of it, and direct and draw in more overall funding from new sources to empower more and larger overall efforts.
